The minimum amount of insurance required by all registered vehicle operators in the state of Missouri is $25,000 for injury liability for one person, $50,000 for all injuries and $10,000 for property damage in an accident.  Plus, Missouri requires drivers to have uninsured motorist coverage

Boat owners often believe their homeowners' insurance policy will cover their boat-related property as well, but generally there is very limited coverage -- typically reflecting only a $1,000 total amount for damages.  Depending on the size of your boat or personal watercraft, you may want to insure them at levels more equal to their true worth. 

Watercrafts less than 16 feet long and with motors no stronger than 25 horsepower represent one category within the insurance industry.  Boats are crafts that are 16 feet to more than 25 feet long.  Any craft at least 26 feet long is considered to be a yacht.

Two types of coverage are available to protect your possessions:

• Under Actual Cash Value, insurance covers the cost of replacing the property minus an allowance for depreciation. Allowances for older items can be significant. Unless your policy specifically says it provides replacement cost coverage, the coverage is for actual cash value.
• Under Replacement Cost Coverage, the insurance covers the cost of replacing the property that is damaged or stolen, up to a maximum dollar amount. Replacement cost is typically better for homeowners.

It's a good idea to insure your home at a level that enables you to rebuild it, if it gets completely destroyed. Replacement values are calculated on a "cost per square foot" basis: take the square footage of your house and multiply it by the average square foot building rate in your area.  We then will help you calculate the replacement value.

Please note there can be certain exceptions to the coverage on homeowners' policies, such as losses due to flooding, earthquakes, and landslides. If you live in a flood or earthquake prone area, or on a hillside, we can assist you with considering additional protection.
